MH-53J PAVE LOW AIR FORCE RESCUE

IMAGE ANGLED TO AVOID FLASH The MH-53J is derivative of CH-53E with two 4330hp GE T64 engines, speed: 165mph, range: 630 miles but can refuel inflight, "Pave Low" terrain-avoidance radar & "FLIR" forward-looking infrared. First flew: 1981. No caption on bottom. Facts of this event: Two MH-53J's of 21st S.O.S. based at RAF Woodbridge, England took 10 hours, 2 inflight refuelings and 1150 air miles start to finish to rescue 32 crewmen before ship sunk 500 miles from Ireland. All this during 70 knot hurricane winds and 30-40 ft swells.
